Majestic Heights Phase 2A Key Handover Ceremony

Speech by Chief Minister of Penang
At The Majestic Heights Phase 2A Key Handover Ceremony

on 21st January 2017 (Saturday)

I am indeed honoured to officiate the key handover ceremony to the 370 unit owners of Majestic Heights Phase 2A, who have been waiting for almost 20 years for their keys.

The Penang State Government is proud to succeed in the revival and rehabilitation of such abandoned and failed projects left over to us by the previous state government.

The Penang State Government congratulates the white knight developer, PLB Land Sdn. Bhd. and also the EXCO for Housing, YB Jagdeep Singh Deo for facilitating this project since 2013, which has resulted in the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) finally being issued on 18 January, 2017.

The discussions between the State Government, the white knight developer and the purchasers also saw the white knight developer agreeing to the State Government's request that the contribution by the purchasers to the white knight developer, be reduced from RM45,000 as suggested by the white knight, to RM10,000 as suggested by the Penang State Government.

As you are aware, the vicinity of Air Itam, Farlim and Paya Terubong is very densely populated, and with this additional affordable housing project coming in, the Penang State Government already had the foresight to ensure that traffic issues are addressed so as to cope with the increase in numbers of vehicles in the area.

Towards this end, it should be noted that the Penang State Government through the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has commenced the construction works for the RM275 million Bukit Kukus Paired Road since January 2016 and it is expected to be completed in January 2019. It should also be noted that parts of the Bukit Kukus Paired Road will also have to be constructed by the white knight developer.

As stated by YB Jagdeep Singh Deo, this white knight developer will also be building some 6,887 units of affordable housing in remaining phases of their land here in Paya Terubong.

I recall the groundbreaking ceremony held here in August, 2015, where I had requested that the developer complete the revival project within 18 months from that date, which would have been February 2017, and as a result, I am very pleased to be here today slightly before the scheduled completion date as requested, to handover the keys to the proud 370 purchasers of units here at Phase 2A of Majestic Heights,

The Pakatan State Government has fulfilled its promise because of our CAT governance of competency, accountability and transparency. The State Government has also delivered by saving a failed project under Barisan Nasional (BN) and turned it into a successful one. Just like Komtar, PISA and Penang Hill, the State Government will work to turn around a failed BN project to a successful people's project. Delivered as promised!

Thank you. Gong Xi Fa Cai.
