Deepavali Hamper and Cash Giveaway Programme

24th October 2019

A very good evening and warm welcome to everyone.

First of all I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a blessed Happy Deepavali and thank Datuk N Gobalakrishnan, the president of the Malaysian Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, for the initiative taken to organize this corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme in conjunction with the Deepavali festival which falls on 27th October 2019 for the third year consecutively to hand out hampers & goody bags to 100 poor Indian families which contains various assortments of cooking essential items.

Since Datuk N Gobalakrishnan took over as the President of the Penang Indian Chamber in May 2017, he decided to start the CSR Programme by organising the “Majlis Bantuan Ramadhan 2017” in conjunction with Hari Raya Puasa and 50 poor Muslim families were given with an assortment of cooking items, dates and cash amounting to RM 5,000.00.

The chamber started its 1st (CSR) Deepavali programme in 2017 by handing out cash and cooking items worth of RM 16,000.00 to 80 poor Indian families and this year the number of recipients has increased to 100 families.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the president, his management council members and member traders for their generosity in contributing to make this event a great success. I came to understand that we had good response from the recipients, and it had to be limited for 100 families only for this year.

Finally, I once again thank the Malaysian Indian chamber of Commerce and Industry and their members for this great effort in organizing this event.

Thank you.
