Good afternoon.

I am deeply honoured to be here today at the Penang Art Gallery to commemorate the "My Art My Journey" solo art exhibition by Dato’ Chuah Kooi Yong. This event, taking place from the 13th to 30th August 2023, not only celebrates artistic excellence but also holds the promise of contributing to the enrichment of Penang in several meaningful ways.

I extend my warmest congratulations to Dato’ Chuah Kooi Yong on this remarkable exhibition, which is a culmination of his nearly five decades of dedication to the world of art. The pieces showcased here are more than mere artworks; they are windows into his experiences, reflections, and evolution as an artist. As we traverse through this visual narrative, we're reminded of the power of dedication and the transformative nature of creativity.

Before proceeding further, it is also fitting to acknowledge that Dato’ Chuah’s contributions extend beyond the canvas to the Equator Academy of Art & Design, which he founded in 1987. This institution has grown into a recognized private institution of excellence by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education and is also widely acknowledged across various societal sectors.

It has become a beacon of artistic excellence, nurturing countless talents and impacting various creative industries. His commitment to art education stands as a testament to his dedication to nurturing emerging artists and propelling the local art scene in Penang. His efforts in this regard are truly commendable.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Beyond its artistic significance, this event resonates on a larger scale within our community. The "My Art My Journey" exhibition contributes to Penang's cultural tapestry by infusing it with the essence of diverse cultures and landscapes that Dato’ Chuah has encountered in his travels. It enhances our cultural richness and promotes understanding across boundaries.

Not to mention, this exhibition serves as a wellspring of education, inspiring budding artists and enthusiasts alike. Dato’ Chuah's journey serves as a testament to the process of artistic growth, motivating the next generation to embark upon their own creative ventures.
