Ladies & Gentlemen,
Good Morning! It is my pleasure to join you this morning for the prize giving ceremony of Penang Run 2018. This 11th edition of Penang Run, is organised by Actife Style Concept which has experience in organising more than 50 races from running, hiking, to ultramarathon and the Malaysia Biggest Fun Run event. I believe that all participants enjoyed the competition and camaraderie in this event with our friends from different parts of the world.
The Penang State Government is glad to know that this International event has recorded 5,000 participants, being the biggest race in George Town enclave especially with 264 international runners from 28 countries such as the US, Australia, Austria, Belgium, British, Myanmar, China, Czech, Philippines, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kenya, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and Wales. Also with 21% of participant from nationwide as well as many families joining the 4km fun run together with students and public.
Penang Run has been an interesting and a very meaningful event since it started in 2013. It was the first Round Island Run in Malaysia, the first series run and the first to have the puzzles design medals for Penang Island and Mainland. Today, we created the biggest race and longest race in Georgetown as well.
Sports events help in promoting Penang as a destination of Sports Tourism. This is a good step towards raising Penang's profile as a sporting nation. Event like this certainly has the potential to grow and contribute towards our vision for a vibrant sports industry. I would like to congratulate all participants for your spirited involvement in this event, and wish one and all the very best at the many more successful runs to come.
