Good Morning.
Following His Excellency Mr. Kanoya’s farewell courtesy visit which I received this morning, it is my pleasure to be here to witness the award presentation ceremony by The Crime Consciousness & Public Safety Society, Penang to Mr. Kanoya, the outgoing Consul-General of Japan in Penang. The request by CCPSS’ Dato’ Anil and team to present an award to Mr. Kanoya for his contributions to the State is a fitting tribute which I’m happy to be part of.
I take this opportunity to record Penang’s sincerest appreciation to Mr. Kanoya for sparing no effort in promoting friendly and warm working relationship between Penang and the Japanese Government for the past 2 years and 10 months.
Mr. Kanoya’s time as the Japanese Consul-General in Penang was certainly marked by historic events, including the 2018 Malaysian General Elections and the dawn of the Reiwa era. Through it all, the friendship fostered between Penangites and the local Japanese community remains strong, evident from numerous cultural events like Bon Odori and Penang Yosakoi Parade.
I hope these festivals will continue to be part of Penang’s cultural fabric once we return to COVID-19 free days.
We look forward to welcoming Mr. Kanoya and wife’s return visit to Penang in the near future as cherished friends of this State, and we are confident that the bond between Penang and Japan, as well as continued mutual progress in economy and culture will flourish further for years to come.
Kanoya-san, ot-su-ka-re-sa-ma de-shi-ta
(Mr. Kanoya, thank you for your hard work)
