Representatives of the state agencies and organizations,
Distinguished guests,
Members of the media,
Ladies and gentlemen.
A very good evening to all of you.
First and foremost, I would like to thank the directors of The George, George Town, Penang, especially Ms Catherine, the Managing Director, and her team, for inviting me here today to grace the “Soft Opening of The George”.
This hotel, I was told, has 92 rooms that are furnished in a classic and elegant style, including 30 suites with tastefully appointed bedrooms and a sitting area. All of the rooms and suites have modern facilities and amenities, while the hotel exudes an old-world charm, making it a classic looking hotel with contemporary amenities.
A premium touch is added to guests' stays by the hotel's additional amenities of a steam room, gym, and a saltwater pool with exquisite landscaping. Also, another highlight of the hotel is its restaurant, which serves a multi-cultural menu, that will have something to suit every palate.
By bringing to life a new jewel in the centre of George Town, The George team has certainly created a new milestone in Penang's hospitality history, and I would like to congratulate and thank each and every one of them for their hard work. I look forward to The George adding vibrancy to this part of the heritage zone by bringing many new and exciting events to the hotel.
Ladies and gentlemen,
As the Chief Minister of Penang, I would like to use this opportunity to remind everyone that each and every one of us is an ambassador for Penang, and we can each play a part in bringing value to the tourism industry in Penang.
After two and a half years of the pandemic where everyone went through very tough times, it is now time for the Penang people to rally themselves and help in the recovery of the Penang’s tourism industry.
All relevant stakeholders can work together to come out with the best tourism products, be it value added and innovative packages, interesting and varied events, or exciting new tourism venues.
I strongly believe that by working together, we will be able to propel Penang to greater heights, in line with the state's Penang2030 vision of ‘A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation’.
With that, thank you all once again and all the best to The George, George Town, Penang.
