Good evening.
Although I am now officially serving as the caretaker Chief Minister of the current administration, I am delighted to announce that the Penang State Government welcomes the opening of Tunisian Honorary Consulate Office as well as the appointment of Dato’ Seri Yusuf Taiyoob as Honorary Consul of Tunisia in Penang.
I do not think Dato’ Seri requires any introduction as a whisper of his name will definitely remind us all of the Ramadhan month, and particularly the imported Tunisian dates. His business acumen aside, I am confident that Dato’ Seri is the best man for this role, and that your responsibilities as the Honorary Consul will cement strong relations between Tunisia and Penang.
Apart from the Consulate-General Offices of Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and China, I believe Tunisia is 21st on the list of Honorary Consulates in Penang. I hope more countries will look towards setting up consular representation in Penang and for the list to get longer in time.
With the opening of the Tunisian Honorary Consulate Office here, I hope there will be increasing interaction and engagement between Penang, Malaysia and Tunisia in the fields of business, investment, and other areas of mutual interest. We certainly welcome more exposure for Penang in Tunisia and in the North African region.
