Members of the media,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good morning.

I am deeply grateful and honoured to be here with all of you for the grand opening of the 'Technicolor Multicultural Festival 2024'. Today, we gather to celebrate the vibrant tapestry of cultures that make Penang a beacon of diversity and harmony. "Unity in diversity" is not just a saying; it is a lived experience in our state, and this festival is a testament to that beautiful principle.

Additionally, this event, hosted here at UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College's Batu Kawan campus, is a celebration our collective commitment to making a positive impact on the community. Today, as we come together surrounded by the vibrant hues of technology, culture, and creativity, we do so with a noble intention – to lend support to those who are less fortunate and the underprivileged.

As the proverb goes, "Charity begins at home", and it brings me great joy to announce that the proceeds from this event will be directed toward charitable causes. I am also particularly delighted to learn that we are expecting around 12,000 participants, each contributing to the enriching and meaningful atmosphere of this festival.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Penang stands as a shining example of cultural diversity and inclusivity, where various ethnicities, traditions, and beliefs peacefully coexist. It is said that “out of diversity comes strength," and the 'Technicolor Multicultural Event' beautifully showcases this harmonious blend by highlighting the beauty of our diverse cultures through technology and arts.

Further to that, it showcases the essence of charity and empathy that binds us together. Penangites are known for their unwavering support for one another, especially during challenging times. It is part of our DNA – lending a helping hand when it is needed most. And today, I am glad that we are taking that spirit a step further. By channelling the proceeds from this event towards charitable causes, we are not just reaffirming our commitment to those in need, but we are also making a bold statement about our dedication to leaving a meaningful mark on society.

It is truly inspiring to see how UOW Malaysia is setting new standards by blending technology with traditional values. The diverse range of events planned is a testament to their commitment to inclusivity and community engagement. Beyond their charitable efforts, hosting various competitions provides a platform for budding talents to shine. This festival could very well be the starting point for many young students on their journey toward future success. Accordingy, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the organizers of this event for their tireless dedication in making this celebration a reality.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

At the State Government level, this administration ensures the welfare of the people is always defended through the i-Sejahtera Program, which provides financial assistance to the needy people of Penang, such as senior citizens, people with disabilities, single mothers, housewives, and children aged two years and below. To date, the financial disbursement of the i-Sejahtera programme has reached RM 50 million annually.

Furthermore, the State Government, through the Office of the Exco for Social Development, Welfare, and Non-Islamic Affairs, has initiated a comprehensive initiative themed "Manfaat Rakyat". This approach encompasses policies, programmes, and initiatives that yield returns in social welfare, economic awareness, and infrastructure to improve the quality of life for the community.

In promoting racial harmony, the Penang State Government has taken significant steps by establishing the fund for the development of Non-Islamic Places of Worship (RIBI) and founding the Penang Harmony Corporation (HARMONICO). Since the 15th Penang State Election, we have approved 43 applications for the Non-Islamic Places of Worship Fund, amounting to RM 1.73 million. These grants support various places of worship in their enhancement efforts, reinforcing our commitment to harmonious and balanced development among all communities.

We believe that the success of these initiatives depends on the cooperation and support of everyone. Events like today’s festival are a testament to our collective efforts in fostering unity and understanding. By celebrating our diverse cultures, we contribute to the broader goal of racial harmony, uplifting vulnerable communities and reducing inequalities.

Before I conclude, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to UOW Malaysia KDU Penang University College. Your unwavering commitment to education, culture, and innovation is truly commendable. Your institution plays a pivotal role in shaping future leaders who will continue to enrich our community. I look forward to seeing more initiatives that reflect these values.

With that said, I hope the 'Technicolor Multicultural Event' will not only impress with its grandeur but also leave a lasting impact on the lives of others. Let us embrace the melody of cultures that intertwine in the symphony of Penang, for "harmony makes small things grow, lack of it makes great things decay." Together, let us write a new chapter — one of growth, harmony, and boundless compassion.

Thank you, and may this event be a resounding
