Ladies and Gentlemen

I am indeed honoured to be here this afternoon for the opening ceremony of Menara M Summit, a joyous and momentous occasion for Dato’ Albert Moh and his dedicated team members in M Summit Group. My heartiest congratulations to M Summit Group for coming up with this sleek structure, which I am told has been described as ‘tall, dark and handsome’ and located just across the road where Komtar is, we are practically neighbours!

I appreciate the fact that constructing this building within a limited and narrow footprint, must be no easy feat. Each hurdle that you faced would be like solving a Chinese puzzle box. Thus, I must commend you for being a developer who constantly “thinks out of the box” in meeting your challenges and solving them with a finesse befitting your stature.

The automated tower carpark, for example, is indeed a novel way of overcoming land constraint as well as parking woes within a busy city. Unlike a multi-storey carpark, it does not need platforms and lanes for drivers to feverishly circle around in search of vacant bays, a mental torment when time is of the essence.

With a mechanical system, a car owner can just drive onto a platform, alight from his or her vehicle and watch it rise above and park by itself. This saves time in finding parking lots and is also effective in preventing car break-ins, vandalism and car thefts – hence enabling the vehicle owner to have peace of mind.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

To cater to the growing accommodation needs of tourists in the city, I’m glad to note that M Summit Group has diversified and ventured into the hospitality industry. M Summit 191 Executive Hotel Suites is further complemented by the HH M Summit 191 Rooftop Bar and The Skye event space all under the same roof!

Strategically located within the crossroads of commercial, retail, entertainment and tourism hubs, this building is just about a 1-minute walk away from the state administrative centre in Komtar, shopping malls, heritage landmarks and the George Town bus interchange.

And now, the Group further plans to build an annexe in order to provide more suites and better facilities. The State Government always welcomes developments as long as they don’t have any adverse impact on the environment and society. We also look forward to forging 4P partnerships (public, private, people, professional) with responsible developers like M Summit via a sustainability-led development agenda.

Like I said earlier in my speech, Menara M Summit earned itself the description of being “tall, dark and handsome” like an Oriental alpha male. May I add on that Komtar too has her string of admirers for being “poised and fair-skinned with a willowy figure like a Caucasian dame”. Both buildings facing one another along Magazine Road house those with the best intention for Penangites – one in the area of governance while the other in property development.

I wish M Summit Group a thriving year ahead and congratulations on another milestone. To everyone present this evening, I wish you Happy New Year and a great weekend!

Thank you.
