Ladies and gentlemen

Good Morning and Salam Sejahtera.

First and foremost, I would like to congratulate Penang Badminton Association (PBA) together with Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) for successfully organizing this badminton tournament Victor Malaysia International Series 2018 today, at Bukit Dumbar Badminton Court.

I was informed that this 3 days tournament from today until 11 November 2018 will be attended by 250 participants from all over the world, i.e Thailand, Indonesia, China Taipei, India, Korea, Mauritius, Laos, Brunei, England, Singapore, Australia & Malaysia. On behalf of The Penang State Government, I would like to extend our warmest welcome and ‘Selamat Datang’ to all of you.

Badminton is one of the popular sport in Malaysia. This sport promotes positive values such as teamwork, sportsmanship and friendship. I believe the assembly of participants from various countries this morning is a symbol of friendship from people of all background for a common goal to participate in this sport event for the love of badminton.

And as you all know, Penang has been the power house for badminton. We have produced world class champions like the late Dato’ Eddie Choong, the Tan’s brothers Aik Huang and Aik Mong, Dato Teh Kew San, Dato’ Wira Lee Chong Wei and most recently Goh Jin Wei, the newly crowned Olympic Junior champion.

We hope that Penang Badminton Association (PBA) will continue its noble efforts in training more world class players.

Ladies and gentlemen,

To all participants, do take this opportunity to visit our UNESCO Heritage Site and I am pretty sure that you will be amazed at how much this cultural rich state, its beautiful heritage buildings, delicious local food and friendly people would make you want to come back to Penang for more.

Finally, I would like to congratulate all parties especially Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and Penang Badminton Association (PBA) for their efforts in organizing this event. I would also like to record my sincere appreciation to Victor Far East for being the title sponsor for this championship.

I wish all participants best of luck and hope that your stay in this beautiful island of Penang would be a pleasant and a memorable one.
