Ladies and Gentlemen
A very good afternoon! Thank you Sunway Property for inviting me here today to be part of this momentous event, the balloting balloting ceremony for 200 new home-owners in getting their first low-cost houses. It has been a long wait for the home owners I am sure.
These 200 units of low-cost houses are well located in Batu Maung on Penang Island and Bukit Mertajam on the mainland. I am truly glad that Sunway has taken a step forward in helping the state government in realising our pledge in achieving 75,000 units of low-cost and low-medium cost housing by 2020, in which we have surpassed with a grand total of 80,000 units to-date.
Penang state government would like to thank all the developers who had contributed to the success of this initiative. This is one of the pledges we made in the 14th General Election and we have fulfilled it.
To my knowledge, Sunway Property as a reputable Master Community Developer is undertaking the Build-Then-Sell (BTS) concept for these low-cost developments. It helps to benefit the low-income earners in saving on the instalment interests. I’d like to congratulate Sunway on this effort.
Ladies and gentlemen,
As of October, there are currently 30,726 people on the waiting list to buy low and low-medium cost units and 12,326 for other categories, with a majority of them on the island.
The Penang state government as a people-centric government is also looking into various options such as rent-to-own scheme to ensure the low-income earners can own their homes too.
In making Penang prosper and achieve greater heights while working towards Vision Penang2030, the state welcomes cooperation from all quarters especially corporate companies like Sunway to contribute ideas and resources.
Let’s work together to focus on improving livability, economy, civil participation and balanced development to achieve a family-focused green and smart vision for the state.
Before I end my speech, I wish Sunway Property every success in the upcoming projects that you will bring to Penangites and across Malaysia. To all the future home-owners, congratulations and good luck in balloting your dream units.
Thank you.
