Ladies and gentlemen.
Good evening. I am pleased to be here to celebrate the joyous occasion of the Republic of Indonesia’s 78th Independence Day. To all our Indonesian friends, especially those in Penang, may I wish you a belated “Selamat Hari Ulang Tahun ke-78, Dirgahayu Republik Indonesia”.
While the current global landscape is fraught with geo-political challenges, our two countries have always enjoyed an enduring kinship that blossomed from the many similarities in language, history, culture and religion. Where sporting rivalries may pose an occasional hiccup here and there, this only reflects our shared enthusiasm and at times, boisterous emotions. Above all, our two countries are firm friends, business allies and of course, family.
As we look ahead to an evening of festivities, I take this opportunity to thank Bapak Kiki Kusprabowo, the Acting Consul-General and the KJRI officers for their continuous efforts in promoting Indonesia’s long-standing warm relations with Penang.
