大家傍晚好，祝佛教徒们，卫塞节快乐！
Good evening to you all, and Happy Vesak Day to all Buddhists!

在马来西亚尤其槟城，每一个宗教都有各自盛大的庆典。自槟城庆祝卫塞节委员会成立后，在每年的这个时候都集合大众的力量，筹备花车游行，也集合各佛团一同参与。在此，我感谢委员会的成员们的努力，每年尽心举办卫塞节的庆典与槟城人民共庆。
As the prime melting pot of the nation, Penang possesses a myriad of religious beliefs. Each of these religious beliefs translates to specific festivities and celebrations that we observe today. Ever since the Penang Vesak Day Celebration Committee was introduced, the committee has managed to attract large public participation annually to prepare the necessaries for the celebration. This includes the preparation of the float parade as well as the congregation of various Buddhist groups for the celebration. With that, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to the members of the committee for their tireless efforts in organizing this year’s Vesak Day celebration.

无论举办任何宗教的庆典，都需要一个和谐、安定、包容的社会和人民。其实，马来西亚人民很幸福，因为我们虽然生活在一个不同种族和宗教的环境中，但依然可以互相包容和尊重，这也是让其它国家非常羡慕的部分。
It is understood that regardless of religious celebrations held, respect and tolerance is a must in a society of various religious backgrounds. Although we Malaysians live among different races and religions, we tolerate and respect each other. As a result, this makes other countries very envious of us.

不过，近年来，除了经常遇到极端分子破坏社会安宁，也多了许多宗教诈骗案件，这确实大家非常失望及担忧。槟州政府一直以来都支持任何宗教的自由和发展，也关注和谐，希望槟城的每一个子民能够生活在安定和进步的生活中。在这方面，单靠槟州政府的努力并不足够，我们感谢所有宗教团体的配合与坚持，也希望大家继续与槟州政府一同努力创造和谐且繁荣的槟州。
Nevertheless, in recent years, encounters of religious extremism have often disrupted social peace and harmony. This has become a concern not only on a state-level but also on the national front. In this respect, the Penang state government has always supported religious freedom and development, with hopes that every citizen of Penang can practice their religion in harmony. Despite that, efforts of the state government alone are not enough. Therefore, religious groups must cooperate and resist in all forms of extremism, and continue to work alongside the state government for a harmonious and prosperous Penang.

各位，我相信任何宗教都是宣扬和平与智慧。在这个快速变化的世界里，和平与智慧不仅是我们的追求，更是我们需要传递给下一代的宝贵财富。尤其作为槟州首席部长，我认为社会的领导是需要智慧的，才能够平静面对任何难题。
Ladies and gentlemen,

I believe that all religions preach peace and wisdom to its congregations. In this rapidly changing world, peace and wisdom should not only be our pursuits, but must be comprehended as valuable assets that need to be passed on to the next generation. As the Chief Minister of Penang, I believe that leaders in every society must possess wisdom in facing any difficulties in order to face it calmly.

然而，实现和平不仅仅是一个个人的努力，它还需要我们共同的参与和合作。在我们的家庭、学校、社区甚至国家层面，我们都需要推动和平的理念，以化解矛盾，建设一个更加和谐美好的社会。
However, achieving peace is not just an individual effort, it requires our collective participation and cooperation. In our families, schools, communities and even at the national level, we all need to promote the concept of peace to resolve conflicts in order to build a more harmonious society.

今年的卫塞节主题是“和谐相处，福祉社会”，正符合我们近年来所推崇的理念。我也了解，今年佛总在这几天也举办了一系列的活动，当中包括环保手工工作坊，从中也提倡人类与大自然之间的和平。我深信，大家在这几天的活动都获益良多。
The theme of this year’s Vesak Day, “Living Harmoniously, Thriving Society”, is in line with the concepts we have advocated in recent years. I also understand that this year the Buddhist Association has also organized a series of activities such as environmentally friendly handicraft workshops which promotes peace between humans and nature. With that, I firmly believe that everyone will benefit a lot from the activities organized.

希望佛总以及其它宗教组织可举办更多创意活动，以不同形式传达每个宗教的正面理念。若有机会，槟州政府也会与大家合作举办更多活动，实现一个幸福的槟州。
Lastly, I hope that the Buddhist Association as well as other religious organizations will conduct more creative activities in conveying their preaches, concepts, and understanding of their religion to the masses. In conjunction to that, the Penang state government remains committed to cooperating and extending assistance with all religious groups in organizing activities that will make Penang a more harmonious state.

最后，再次祝大家卫塞节快乐，也祝今晚的游行圆满举行。谢谢。
