A very good evening to all of you.

First and foremost, allow me to express my deep appreciation for the invitation to this Charity Gala Dinner in conjunction with the T.Y.T Cup Golf Tournament 2022 organised by Yayasan Amal TYT Pulau Pinang.

I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to the organising committee whose members have worked tirelessly for the success of this evening’s programme.

As we are all aware of, on 30 April 2021, Tuan Yang Terutama Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi bin Haji Abdul Razak received his Instrument of Appointment from His Majesty KDYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to be the 8th Yang Dipertua Negeri of Penang. This was followed by a Swearing-In Ceremony on 1 May 2021 which took place at Seri Mutiara and henceforth, Tuan Yang Terutama Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi bin Haji Abdul Razak began the next glorious chapter of his public life as the 8th Yang Dipertua Negeri or Governor of the State of Penang. Tuan Yang Terutama Tun is most suited for the august Office of the Yang Dipertua Negeri Pulau Pinang due to Tun’s vast experience in international diplomacy, charisma and always having the people’s well-being close to heart. 

Upon the suggestion by Tuan Yang Terutama Tun himself, Yayasan Amal TYT Pulau Pinang gained approval and was formed at the Penang State Executive Council meeting on 18 November 2021 and made official on 9 December 2021. The Penang State Executive Council also agreed to appoint Deputy Chief Minister I Yang Berhormat Dato’ Ir. Haji Ahmad Zakiyuddin Bin Abd Rahman as the Chairman of Yayasan Amal TYT Pulau Pinang. Tuan Yang Terutama Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi bin Haji Abdul Razak, apart from his official duties as the Terutama Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang, is also concurrently the Patron of Yayasan Amal TYT Pulau Pinang. As Patron, Tuan Yang Terutama Tun plays a pivotal role as adviser in the direction and functions of the Yayasan.

Evidently, the Yayasan was formed with the best interest and welfare for the people of Penang in the mind of Tuan Yang Terutama Tun. As a mark of the Penang State Government’s undivided support towards the formation of  Yayasan Amal TYT Pulau Pinang, a starting grant of RM1 million had been allocated to the Yayasan.

Distinguished guests,

The Penang State Government will never rests on our laurels when it comes to the welfare of the people and this is in line with our Penang2030 Vision:  A Family-Focused Green and Smart State That Inspires The Nation. Moreover, the responsibility to re-ignite the social life and livelihood of our people in the post-Covid era rests squarely on the shoulders of the Penang State Government. The global health crisis which we have had to face in the past two years affected almost everyone regardless of his or her station in life with dire consequences.

In terms of welfare aid, the State Government had spent a total of RM191.22 million under the Pakej Bantuan Khas COVID-19 (Penang LAWAN COVID-19) to lighten the financial burden faced by the people as well as to save the various badly affected sectors of our economy. Apart from that, the State Government’s commitment remain unchanged in the continuation of the i-Sejahtera Welfare Programme which has benefitted Penangites since it was started in May 2009.

When it comes to social programmes, the LovePenang Campaign was launched on 10 June 2022 to revive the spirit of our people whose livelihood was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Ladies & gentlemen, such are the measures which the State Government has initiated for Penang to regain her shine and to be back on track for recovery.

Hence, I am most delighted to note that Yayasan Amal TYT Pulau Pinang is an additional platform for the betterment of the people’s welfare in our beloved State of Penang. It also remains my ardent hope that more fundraising activities such as the Charity Gala Dinner and the T.Y.T Gold Tournament 2022 can be organised in time to come and such activities will receive the enthusiastic support from private individuals as well as corporate bodies.

From the State Government’s two-year experience garnered in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, we have come to realise that unity in heart & will can be achieved in the face of adversity among the stakeholders, namely; the authorities, the corporate bodies as well as private individuals.

This was evident during the timely contributions of health equipment, human resource and financial support towards the Penang LAWAN COVID-19 campaign which achieved the dual aim of saving lives and livelihood. I have no reason to doubt that this very same spirit can be channeled towards Yayasan Amal TYT Pulau Pinang for its welfare activities. This shall bring out the love and care we have for one another in a now delicate humanity just like the objectives of the LovePenang Campaign.
