Ladies & gentlemen

It is indeed an honour and a pleasure to be invited here today, to officiate the Grand Opening of HeroMarket, a very local yet high quality supermarket.

Having HeroMarket here in Penang is something we should all be proud of; as Penang is chosen as Mr Francis Teng’s first investment in the Northern region of Malaysia.

Thank you for choosing Penang in spreading the name of HeroMarket in Malaysia!

This investment, I’m sure will benefit not just the people of Air Itam but also Penang-lang; and the people of the northern region as a whole. I believe this new supermarket will create job opportunities to the locals as well as provide another choice of shopping destination.

For this, I would like to credit Dato’ Sonny Ho for his sharp business acumen and vision for inviting HeroMarket to venture into this beautiful state. I understand that the HeroMarket brand has already more than 20 branches in Malaysia.

Imagine, we now have a supermarket with one of the most incredible customer service in the industry. I was told that you can ask for certain products such as locally produced chili sauce and give HeroMarket’s customer service a week or two; you’ll probably find your chili sauce on one of the shelves.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Malaysia’s economy grew by 4.5% in the second quarter of this year. Economists see this as a slow growth but we in Penang believe that with proper plans and initiatives put into action, we will see Penang’s GDP rise to more than the 5.3% that was recorded in 2017.

We recently launched this Penang2030, a 12-year action plan, an initiative that focuses on mapping out our Penang’s development into a family-focused, green and smart state to inspire the nation.

This action plan focuses on 4 core themes that aim to make Penang a state that empowers the people via active civic participation in discussions to create a happy, creative and inspiring environment for the people. I hope HeroMarket and other entrepreneurs would also join me in this Penang2030 mission.

Ladies and gentlemen,

I’ve said this before and I would like to reiterate that, “Empowering the people will be the hallmark of my administration. It is the goal that underlies everything that we do.”

I believe that the qualities of a great man are his vision, integrity, courage, understanding and the profundity of his character. I’m indeed blessed to meet a man with such characteristics today as his humbleness touches the hearts of many.

As a young man, Mr Austin Teng started off by helping his father deliver goods from their sundry shop. Mr FrancisTeng has indeed inspired his son to work creatively and expand their family business. Today, his achievement is indeed a testament that we can achieve anything if we work hard and smart towards a vision of betterment.

Ladies and gentleman,

HeroMarket is not only offering low prices and locally produced goods as well as selected products from Indonesia and Thailand’s best imports, HeroMarket is also offering never ending on-the-job training to any age group. With their ever growing business expansion, you will have the opportunity to be trained and transferred to their many outlets throughout the country for better exposure.
