Ladies and Gentlemen
Good evening and Selamat Sejahtera.
I would like to thank and express my utmost appreciation to MAICSA for the invitation to be a part of Annual Dinner 2018 event. I am honoured and privileged to be your Guest of Honour and to be amongst the gatekeepers of corporate governance and integrity, Company Secretaries such as yourselves.
I understand that apart from MAICSA members, we have members from other professional and regulatory bodies and I commend all of you for taking the time to come together despite your busy schedules. You may not realize it, but it is at this event that we see the amount of support we have from fellow compatriots. Let us be grateful for the family, friends and acquaintances we have, and it is because of them that we are here to celebrate this occasion.
Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,
I wish to congratulate MAICSA for adopting the tagline “Leading Governance”. Leading governance is made up of many good ethical practices and performed with integrity. Without good governance and integrity, it would be hard to achieve transparency.
The role of company secretaries is very important as they are the ‘keepers’ of governance in the corporate world. Company secretaries must realize the crucial role they play in the development of the nation especially in their contribution towards strengthening and raising the standard of corporate governance in the country. With the recognition, trust and expectation placed by Regulators, Corporate Malaysia and the public, Company Secretaries must ensure that they play their role with the degree of professionalism expected from one in such a position. Therefore, MAICSA and its professional programmes are very much relevant in this industry.
The Company Secretary through the Chairman plays an important role in good governance by helping the Board and its committees function effectively and in accordance with their terms of reference and best practices. Company Secretary must therefore understand the function of this relationship and its place in the overall Corporate Governance Ecosystem.
Leading Governance helps organizations to improve their performance by developing the leadership and governance capabilities of their Boards and employees. I therefore look forward to seeing MAICSA, and its members, being at the forefront of Corporate Governance issues and providing leadership in this area. I urge you to continue your work, your commitment towards good governance and integrity.
Here, I would like to highlight that MAICSA plays an important role to educate the Malaysian corporate sector on the importance of corporate governance, strengthening and raising the standard of corporate governance in the country as well as to enhance and elevate the role of company secretaries.
I urge MAICSA to also continue being a very passionate & active institution which takes its members very seriously and also to continue being the platform for such events that brings together the Chartered Secretaries in the Northern region together, giving them the opportunity to strengthen their corporate networking, exchanging ideas and information on leadership, governance as well as the developments that are forever taking place in the industry. Nothing is constant except change, so embrace it.
Ladies and gentlemen, let me not keep you much longer to a sumptuous dinner, I will end here by wishing you all a lovely evening of celebration together.
