Good morning;

This morning we are here to honour my comrade and our Finance Minister, YB Lim Guan Eng for founding the George Town Literary Festival or GTLF.

GTLF turns 8 this year, and he is the reason this festival that has grown to be the world-class literary event that it is.

Yesterday, I had the honour of officiating this festival. As the Chief Minister of Penang, I am proud to proclaim that Penang has birthed and groomed Malaysia’s largest literary festival.

YB Lim is a man of many talents and passions. His vision for Penang as an international city with a vibrant arts and cultural scene has brought Penang much acclaim.

Even though he spends most of his time administrating in Putrajaya, YB Lim makes it a priority to come back to his constituency in Penang regularly.

I know that Penang, and GTLF is close to his heart.

The current State Government of Penang is committed to continuing YB Lim’s vision to grow GTLF to greater heights.

Penang will always be the home of Malaysia’s largest literary festival, and the home of freedom and intellect.

To YB Lim, thank you for taking time to come back to Penang for GTLF.

I hope that with this recognition of the Patron of the George Town Literary Festival, we will continue to get your support for the growth of Penang’s literary, arts and cultural initiatives.

Thank you.
