Ladies and Gentlemen
Good afternoon and a warm welcome to all!
Today, we are witnessing the donation of RM150,000 from Keysight Technologies Malaysia to Penang Science Cluster (PSC), as well as the handover of over 70 units of used personal computers/ tablets and PC peripheral donated by employees of Keysight for underprivileged students to continue learning from home.
This latest contribution by Keysight Technologies Malaysia is just one of many that Keysight has made to the state of Penang over the years. Keysight, for example, is one of the primary drivers and sponsors of the Penang Science Cluster, collaborating with the State Government to drive PSC initiatives to inspire our young students in science, technology, and innovation.
Penang Science Cluster is a shining example of P-P-P, public private partnership. It is initiated by the State Government but is led by industry and garners the support of the State Government, companies in industry and our people in Penang who volunteers to help educate our young students in science and technology. It is truly a commendable partnership!
In addition to the Penang Science Cluster, Keysight Technologies has made numerous significant contributions to the state's economy. Keysight currently employs over 2,500 Malaysians in high-value jobs, including those with global roles and responsibilities. Furthermore, Keysight has nurtured and supported many SME start-ups that have grown into industry leaders, most notably ViTrox Technologies. Thus, in addition to the 2,500 employees at Keysight, another 5,000 jobs exist via Keysight's partnership with Contract Manufacturers and SMEs.
Who would have foreseen that 49 years ago, one of the 7 samurais, in example, Hewlett-Packard, that set up factories in Penang’s Free Trade Zone would blossom into a world-class company in Keysight Technologies today? It is indeed testimony to the talent of the people of Penang and Malaysia that made this possible. Well done!
With the latest donation from Keysight Technologies, more students will benefit from the State’s ‘E-Learning Computer Programme’. As an update, 800 low-income students have already benefited from the laptop loans, and another 794 students have received free computers as a result of this programme.
Lastly, in our bid to realize Penang as A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation, I would like to encourage more companies in the corporate sector as well as the public to donate their used computers to the Penang Science Cluster to be loaned, or to Swisspac for repairs prior to distribution to students in need.
Thank you.
