It is a pleasure to be here this evening and I thank Mr. Khoo Teck Chong, Chairman of REHDA Penang, Dato’ Toh Chin Leong, Organising Chairman and the committee of REHDA Penang for your kind invitation. I understand that this fellowship dinner is meant to be an informal gathering to be happy, to release tension and ‘yam-seng’ and I shall not take up too much of your time with a long speech.
Although the many challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic are still felt, the commitment by all parties, has resulted in the country and state moving from the recovery stage to the endemic stage since 1st April. Our focus now is towards economic recovery in order for the rakyat to quickly return to the standard of quality living and quality of life enjoyed by everyone before the pandemic.
The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has been great but it has not impeded the growth of manufacturing investments approved in Penang for 2021. Penang’s industrial performance continues to excel despite being clouded by challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic, with approved manufacturing investments hitting a record high of RM76.2 billion in 2021. The investment projects obtained in 2021 is expected to generate 12,000 job opportunities in the state.
I am confident that the Penang2030 vision which focuses on family ties, social development, green and smart state will propel Penang to greater heights. We are committed to increase our liveability, upgrade the economy and household income as well as to encourage civic participation. In this respect, we are always open to the community through engagement and working with non-governmental organisations.
The state government appreciates the role played by REHDA as a link between the government and the private sector and in ensuring that developers’ views are taken into account by the relevant authorities and government agencies. REHDA is highly regarded by both the public and private sectors for your commitment to nation building and betterment of life through sustainable property development.
The state government’s quest to provide affordable and quality housing for the state as well as bring continued progress and prosperity to Penang can only be achieved through the cooperation of all parties including REHDA through consultation, dialogue and public private partnership.
The Penang State Government has directed the entire state administration including all the state departments, local authorities, state agencies, state GLCs and state leadership at all levels to work as a dynamic team to offer the best services to the rakyat in order for us all to achieve the Penang2030 key performance indicators.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate REHDA Penang for successfully organizing this evening’s fellowship dinner. On this note, I would like to once again thank the organizing committee for your invitation and wish everyone a happy and enjoyable evening ahead.
