Ladies & Gentlemen

Good evening to all of you.

I would like to thank the organisers for inviting me to officiate this evening’s media appreciation and fundraising event.

It is definitely a good opportunity for everyone to come together in a spirit of solidarity and comradeship with members of the media fraternity and CCPSS. Moreover, we are coming together tonight to further strengthen the good relationship we have in addressing an important goal we have in common which is to Keep Penang Safe.

I would like to share at this juncture that CCPSS has been actively working closely in tandem with stakeholders including Government Departments, other like-minded NGOs and members of our community in consonance with its motto “CONSCIOUSLY CURBING CRIME”.

This is very much in line with the aspirations of the Penang State Government in maintaining the standards of our liveability as the preferred location for recreation, investment as well as residence. To succeed in these 3 criteria, Penang must first be safe.

And when I say safe, what I mean is that the state must not be a haven for criminal activities.

The rule of law must be upheld at all times so that wrong-doers will know that it doesn’t pay to commit crimes. To be safe, our people must also be well-informed on what is happening everyday around us. This is important for the people to make wise decisions on matters that affect us all and do not easily fall prey to rumours or scams.

The credit for this, I must say, goes to the media practitioners and media outlets which are here tonight or whose representatives are here. Hence, this evening’s event is a most timely and noteworthy one as it seeks to provide recognition and appreciation to the members of the media fraternity.

On my part, I commend your unwavering commitment to inform the public on important information vis-a-vis crime consciousness and public safety. The real time dissemination of news and public service announcements will go a long way to reduce crime victimization and foster the culture of collective responsibility in ensuring public safety.

Ladies & gentlemen,

For the 18 months since your official registration on 20th October 2020, I have been informed that CCPSS had successfully organised more than 60 programmes for the benefit of the communities and your members. This is highly commendable given the challenges of COVID-19 pandemic and the SOPs related to the various phases of the Movement Control Order.

Congratulations and well done, CCPSS!

Ladies & gentlemen,

I am also made to understand that this evening’s event also seeks to raise funds to facilitate the ongoing and future initiatives by CCPSS to help KEEP PENANG SAFE in line with the State Government’s Vision Penang2030 and LOVE PENANG theme.

Public Safety is a strategic prerequisite and catalyst to achieve a vibrant and conducive environment for our sustainable economic and social development.

Thank you to all the noble donors who continue to contribute towards the noble cause championed by CCPSS.

Finally, I would like to, once again, congratulate CCPSS for organising this event and inviting me to grace the evening. I wish you all a pleasant evening in which we can all come together in a spirit of camaraderie and unity.

Thank you and have an enjoyable night ahead.
