Members of the media, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen.

Good evening and thank you all for joining us today.

I am delighted to announce the 36th edition of the V-Convention that will be held right here in Penang, from 7th to 11th October 2022. It is indeed an honour for us to host the flagship and signature event of The V, where thousands of participants convene together.

The annual event organised by V-Global has always topped Penang’s Business Events industry, with the attendance of thousands of delegates from 70 countries worldwide. It is also the 9th consecutive year that V-Convention has chosen Penang as its convention destination.

Supported by Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB), an agency set up to grow Business Events in Penang, this event indeed serves as a benchmark to prove that Penang is capable of hosting large-scale events.

I am glad that Penang, widely known as a world-renowned tourist destination and as the Silicon Valley of the East, is now making significant strides and establishing prominence as a preferred destination for such high-profile events.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Taking this opportunity, I would like to highlight the theme of this year’s V-Convention which goes as, ‘Be The Change’, that caught my attention. In line with the state’s Penang2030 initiative to ‘Empower People’, it is indeed an amazing message to people of all ages that, all failures and successes must be reaped with our own hands. It is pivotal that we find our purpose, pave the way, and choose to be the creators of our own journeys.

I must note that Penang has always stood by this and created a reputation and legacy of its own. And the milestones the state has attained throughout these years are significant and impeccable.

Having that said, we are glad that this purposeful convention will be hosted in Penang once again, with close to 15,000 participants in total. The convention which is set to take place for 5 days at Setia Spice Convention Centre, is expected to generate an economic impact of RM157 million for the state.

We anticipate a spike in the hospitality and tourism sector, which has reset after the pandemic, as Penang will be fully enlivened and bustling throughout the conference days.

With that, I wish the event great success, and we look forward to welcoming the V-Convention delegates with the best Penang hospitality.

Thank you.
