Good evening to you all.
First and foremost, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my deepest gratitude to the organisers for inviting me to this auspicious event. It is truly an honour to be present at the 6th annual dinner hosted by PE Land Penang's Design Village Outlet Mall. As we celebrate the remarkable success and contributions of this shopping mall, let us remind ourselves that it is the enduring partnership between PE Land and Penang state that made these all happened.
The last time I had the privilege of attending this event was in the year 2020. Since then, I have witnessed the mall's remarkable growth and its unwavering commitment to our shared vision for Penang's future. The Penang2030 vision is a “whole-of-society” approach that calls on stakeholders from the public, government, and private realms to collaborate, cooperate, and seek solutions that would allow Penang to achieve a more sustainable and habitable future.
In conjunction with that, PE Land Penang's Design Village Outlet Mall has showcased outstanding achievements that not only show alignment with the vision but have also made vital contributions towards it.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
For your information, PE Land Penang's Design Village Outlet Mall has demonstrated its economic vitality towards the state by generating a staggering RM1.1 billion in retail sales while at the same time contributing a total of RM3.5 million to Penang Development Corporation (PDC) for community support and development.
In terms of job creation and employment, the mall has seen an increase in occupancy rate from 43 percent during its first year of operation to an impressive 86 percent this year. As a result, the mall has accumulated over 121 stores with over 600 daily employees present, ensuring not only employment and job creation but also economic sustainability. Aside from that, the mall has also undertaken several sustainability initiatives, such as the installation of the largest solar PV panel system and the planting of over 790 trees, which align perfectly with our vision of becoming an environmentally conscious, sustainable, and green state. Not to forget also is the mall’s commitment to achieving Green Building Gold certification by 2033 which demonstrates its alignment with our long-term vision for sustainable urban planning and environmentally responsible development.
Additionally, it is also worth acknowledging the resilience displayed by PE Land Penang's Design Village Outlet Mall throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. The mall's ability to weather the storm, support its tenants, and continue its growth is a testament to its dedication and determination. More over, PE Land’s contribution to the growth and development of Batu Kawan’s residential and commercial sectors should not be ignored, with Anggun Residential Project, and Capstone Commercial and Office Tower soon to make its mark in Batu Kawan.
In conclusion, PE Land’s achievements exemplify the spirit honed in the Penang2030 vision. It is a testament to what can be accomplished when businesses and communities collaborate and cooperate towards shared objectives. As we reflect on the progress made over the past years, we look forward to continuing to collaborate to further our contributions to our state's vision.
